New for 2009: Kaiser Deductible Carry-Over!

There was a lot of frustration over the past couple of years for groups with Kaiser. If you were on a HSA eligible High Deductible Health Plan with a renewal date mid-calendar year and wanted to change to another at renewal, your deductible would not carry-over. (For example, a group has a renewal date of June 1st and was on the $1,500 deductible plan. If they wanted to change to the $2,700 deductible plan, any part of their deductible that they had already met since January 1st would not transfer over to the new plan. This meant that they had to start over with a whole new $2,700 deductible for the rest of the calendar year!)

Starting in January 2009, you can now carry over any accumulated deductible from one HSA plan to another! Please remember that deductibles are calendar year and not plan year. This new carry over rule will enable those that are not on January 1st renewal dates, make a change to another HSA plan without having to start their deductible completely from zero!
